Kiyomizu Temple is an independent Buddhist temple in Higashiyama-ku. It was founded in 778, and its buildings were constructed in 1633, ordered by the Tokugawa Iemitsu. Its name comes from the name of the waterfall within the complex, which means pure water. This temple is also well known for including a shrine dedicated to Okuninushi, a god of love. Visitors come here in hopes of finding true love.
