Kinkaku Temple is a Zen Buddhist Temple located in Kita-ku, that was originally a villa owned by Saionji Kintsune, a powerful statesman at the time. It was purchased by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and became a Zen temple after his death. The temple is coated with gold-leaf, which symbolizes the purity the temple has over any pollution or negative thoughts and feelings towards death.
